The locational and geographical features render it vulnerable to a number of natural hazards such as cyclone drought, floods, earthquakes, fire, landslides and avalanches. Floods happen to be the most common natural disaster in India. Cyclones and tropical storms are common, particularly off the east coast of India in the months from September through December.
